SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE: key scenes to change the story of “the three musketeers”

INTRODUCTION - KEY SCENES

There are several scenes in the film which are central to the life of the protagonists. See how the following scenes have been changed:

1)      Jamal, Salim and Latika are running away from Maman’s orphanage: the three of them get on the train…

2)      A group of men with sticks and weapons come into the slum looking for Muslim people: they get Jamal and Salim and take them to a farm…

3)      Jamal and Salim go to Pila Street looking for Latika: Maman finds them and captures Jamal. Salim runs away…

4)      Salim kills Maman and goes to look for Javed. He kills Javed too…

5)      Salim points at Jamal with a gun. Latika hits Salim and the gun is shot accidentally…

6)      Jamal goes to Javed’s mansion. Javed arrives and sees Jamal kissing Latika…

7)      Latika watches Jamal on TV. He wants to run away, but Salim doesn’t let her go…

TASK

In groups of 3 students, choose two scenes and continue them in the suggested way. Each student will play one character.

OPTION 1: RECORD A VIDEO

A)      Write the SCRIPT for the two scenes. Rehearse and finally record it.

B)      Look for good video editing software and share the tasks out: script writing, recording, editing, etc.

C)      Make sure sound is OK.

D)      Bring the clip on a memory stick. Videos will be watched and assessed in class.

OPTION 2: ACT THE SCENE OUT IN CLASS

A)      Write the SCRIPT for the two scenes and memorise it before acting out in class.

B)      Use any stage props that can be helpful for realism and better understanding of the performance (clothes and accessories, etc)
